You know you will need a will eventually, but you simply have not drawn one up yet. It has been on your to-do list for decades. Are you alone?

You’re certainly not. Studies have shown that approximately 60 percent of people in the United States do not have a will. That’s six out of every 10 Americans.

It’s a stunning number. It’s not just that some Americans put this off. The majority of them do. Despite the fact that everyone will eventually need a will, most people have done nothing to prepare for the end of their lives.

Why is this? One of the biggest reasons is that people assume they have a lot of time. You may be 60 years old, and you figure you have at least 20 more years to draft that will. It just does not seem important to do yet.

That’s a serious gamble. The reality is that disease can strike at any age. So can accidents. You face risks every single day. Even if you feel healthy and vibrant today, you do not know what the future holds.

Wouldn’t it be better to create a will ten years too soon than to pass away without one? Even if you think you do not need it right now, there’s no harm in having it on file. Unfortunately, the majority of Americans do not subscribe to this idea.
