This appears to be true at any price point. “What really surprises me is that I think our clientele, who own multiple homes, are looking to scale down,” said one Florida real estate agent who specializes in luxury homes. “They don’t necessarily need the biggest property. They want something more manageable, so it’s not akin to running another corporation.”

What they’re looking for, it seems, is simplicity. The agent also stressed that time is something no one can control, so a lot of people think of having more time as the ultimate luxury. They do not want a huge estate that keeps them from having meaningful experiences. They would rather have a smaller home, so they can enjoy life.

Of course, she also stressed that they still want quality homes. They’re not just trying to pay less by cutting back on the size of the house. But they understand, she said, that it does not need to be the largest home on the block to be the “best.” These days, a lot of buyers want to find the ultimate house they can in a smaller size, helping to improve their quality of life overall.
